Robbie Keane Scores On LA Galaxy Debut

Robbie Keane showed his class and goal scoring abilities Saturday as the La Galaxy beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0.

It took Keene only 21 minutes to announce his arrival in MLS when he was sent through by a pass from Beckham. Keane waited out Quakes goalie Jon Busch, fired home a left-footed shot.

The Galaxy have struggled to get consistent scoring from its forwards this season, but right from the first minute is was apparent that Keane’s presence gives the Galaxy an extra dimension to its attack.

Keane had two good runs at the goal in the first 15 minutes, but was called offside on both. Keane then dragged a shot just wide from the penalty spot in the 19th minute before his goal.

Keene had a great chance to add another goal in the 64th minute when he outran two defenders to a bouncing pass, but his volleyed shot sailed just over the crossbar.

Magee eventually replaced Keane, who left the field to a standing ovation from the crowd of 27,000.

The Galazy were the best team in MLS before the arrival of Keane. Outside of Thierry Henry in New York, Robbie Keane is the best finisher in a league devoid of goalscorers. It will have to be a considered a major shock and disappointment if the Galaxy isn’t playing at home on November 20th for the MLS Cup.
