I heard the rumors last week and Fox Sports has confirmed ththat Brad Friedel is heading to White Hart Lane to take over the Spurs goalkeeping duties from Heurelho Gomes.
Friedel is a free agent and had been linked with a move to either Spurs or Liverpool. At Liverpool, Friedel would not have had a chance to extend his current streak of 275 consecutive appearances in the Premier League (an ongoing record). With Gomes expected to move to Holland or Italy this summer, Freidel will enter preseason as Spurs number one goalkeeper.
In his 14 seasons in the Premier League, Friedel has made 428 appearances, winning a League Cup in 2002, earning a runners-up medal in 2010 in the same competition last year. He was chosen Blackburn’s Player of the Year for the 2002-03 season and also won the Turkish Cup while with Galatasaray in 1996.
Spurs will be Friedel fourth club in England, having previously played for Liverpool (1997-2000) and Blackburn (2000-2008) before his stint at Aston Villa.
Friedel joins a Spurs side that will compete in Europa League next season, and will be trying to return to the Top Four after finishing out of the UEFA Champions League places this season.
