Arsene Wenger and Samir Nasri have both been banned for one match by UEFA for remarks made to the referee after Arsenal’s defeat by Barcelona.
UEFA said in a statement:
“Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and midfield player Samir Nasri have both been suspended for one UEFA club competition match following charges of improper conduct. The Arsenal manager has also been fined 10,000 euros. An appeal may be lodged against the ruling within three days of the dispatch of the reasoned decision.”
In an expected ruling, UEFA also banned AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso for four games for his actions following the game against Spurs in the San Siro.
What was a surprise was that Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan was given a one game suspension by UEFA. I can only surmize that the suspension is for allowing Gattuso to head-butt him!
Because Spurs are still in the Champions League his punishment applies to Tottenham’s next game in the competition, which will be the quarter-final first leg on 5/6 April.
Wenger and Nasri can both appeal their suspension and I don’t expect them to do that. I would not be surprised though if Joe Jordan appeals his suspension, especially if Spurs get drawn against one of the European giants tomorrow.
