After a couple of seasons of wondering whether Roman Abramovich has still passionate about Chelsea the Blues owner has answered his critics by making offers of over £110million this month. Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, none of their offers for players have been accepted yet.
The latest Chelsea target is Liverpool’s Fernando Torres and newspaper reports say that Chelsea have had a £40million bid for the Liverpool striker turned down.
An Anfield source confirmed to the Sun that:
“Liverpool have had an offer for Fernando Torres from Chelsea and it has been turned down. He is not for sale.”
Torres has been unhappy at Anfield for over a year and with Liverpool poised to sign Ajax striker Luis Suarez for £26.5m, the £40+million they would receive for Torres will more than cover the Suarez deal plus allow Liverpool to strengthen elsewhere
According to some reports he also had a £50m get-out clause written into his Anfield contract last summer and with the January transfer window closing in a couple of days, the summer might be a more realistic time frame for Torres to head to Stamford Bridge.
The interest in Torres is another sign that Chelsea will be revamping their squad this summer with Didier Drogba just one of several Chelsea stars who are expected to move away from Stamford Bridge.
